He had "a dream" on August 28, 1963. Now, almost 50 years later, we have an African-American president living Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream. He had a dream for the civil rights, freedom, and liberation of ALL Americans. A Baptist minister, King became a civil rights activist in 1955. He led bus boycotts and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957. Dr. King encouraged a strong family life, and was always concerned for family safety and survival.
